1st Interactive Workshop on the Promotion of Open Science in Requirements Engineering (RE-OpenS) 2026

Date: March 23, 2026
Location: Poznań, Poland
Co-located with: REFSQ 2026

Workshop Format and Program

RE-OpenS is designed as a half-day, paperless, and interactive workshop. It consists of three core blocks: a theoretical session, two practical sessions, and a feedback session. The workshop introduces participants to REFSQ’s Open Science Initiative and empowers them to apply open science best practices, infrastructures, services, and tools through hands-on exercises.

Session Time Outline of Topics Style Speaker(s)
Theoretical Session 09:00 – 09:30 This session familiarizes participants with the foundations of open science and REFSQ’s Open Science Initiative. It introduces two key infrastructures — ORKG and ORKG Ask — that are recommended by REFSQ's Open Science Policy and used in the Open Science Competition.
  • Welcome (5 min)
  • Introduction to Open Science and REFSQ’s Open Science Initiative (10 min)
  • Introduction of two open science infrastructures: ORKG and ORKG Ask (15 min)

Practical Session 1 09:30 – 10:15 Participants use the SciKGTeX LaTeX package to annotate a publication with FAIR metadata. This hands-on session empowers them to embed semantic annotations and upload them to ORKG.
  • Create a FAIR-annotated publication for ORKG using SciKGTeX
  • Set up an Overleaf project
  • Use SciKGTeX to annotate the publication
  • Generate a PDF with embedded FAIR scientific information
  • Optional: Upload to ORKG
Hands-on Exercise

  • Oliver Karras
Practical Session 1 10:15 – 10:30 This session guides participants in creating structured ORKG comparisons of scientific publications using ORKG Ask and the ORKG CSV import. It demonstrates how to extract, structure, and visualize research data.
  • Create an ORKG comparison using ORKG Ask and ORKG CSV import
  • Ask questions on ORKG Ask to identify relevant publications

Break 10:30 – 11:00 Coffee break
Practical Session 2 11:00 – 11:30 This session guides participants in creating structured ORKG comparisons of scientific publications using ORKG Ask and the ORKG CSV import. It demonstrates how to extract, structure, and visualize research data.
  • Refine the results and extract information from the identified publications
  • Export the results and extracted information as a CSV file
  • Use the ORKG CSV import for creating an ORKG comparison
  • Optional: Create a visualization for the created ORKG comparison
  • Optional: Retrieve the information using the SPARQL endpoint

Feedback Session 11:30 – 12:30 Participants engage in a World Café to shape the roadmap for future RE-OpenS editions and reflect on their experience. Insights will also inform improvements to REFSQ’s Open Science Initiative.
  • Collect community needs and wishes to develop a roadmap for RE-OpenS (World Café)
  • Workshop reflection with participants
  • Farewell and closing
